Desdoblar. 2016.
35mm film negatives folded by hand.
Desdoblar (in English “Unfold”) starts from the point of view of dissociation. This state consists in a distancing from physical experience and oneself, as well as a feeling of strangeness towards reality.
The figure of the body is transformed to analyze its role as a container for the psyche. Through self-portraits, the body is presented in two forms, on one hand as a body that expands outside its limits and the limits of the image, on the other hand, as a desensitized body which details have been eliminated to be reduced to mere figure.
The images are taken in 35mm film, which after being developed, pass through a process of physical intervention. The contained image is modified by folding and scratching the negatives with my own hands. Small marks on the surface create the metaphor of a desensitized body caused by dissociation.
It is through the intervention that the materiality of the film fulfills the role of second skin.
